Aroma
Matcha’s aroma should remain enjoyable alongside milk, with the tea’s character present from the first sip to the finish.
Selected by a fourth-generation tea merchant in Kyoto.
A Kyoto tea merchant’s expertise, brought to your everyday matcha latte.
We select Uji matcha for the aroma, color, and umami it brings to milk. ICHIZEN brings that cup into everyday life.
01 / Why Latte
Matcha can be enjoyed beyond a bowl whisked at the table. A latte made with dairy or plant-based milk is another way to make it part of everyday life.
An everyday cup should still let you enjoy matcha’s aroma, color, and umami, even with milk. That wish to make Uji matcha more approachable is why ICHIZEN selects matcha for lattes.
02 / Our Roots
Our tea selection and refining partner is Wakimoto Jokoen Co., Ltd., a fourth-generation green-tea wholesaler in Ide, Kyoto. The expertise passed down through work with teas such as sencha and gyokuro also informs its matcha selection.
Together, we select the leaves for how their taste, aroma, and color come through in a latte, connecting inherited expertise with a cup to enjoy today.
03 / Our Standard
We apply a tea merchant’s assessment of appearance, aroma, liquor color, and taste to the cup made with milk. These are our three priorities.
Matcha’s aroma should remain enjoyable alongside milk, with the tea’s character present from the first sip to the finish.
The green of matcha should still come through with milk. A color to enjoy before the first sip is part of how we select it.
Matcha’s umami and body should be present in harmony with milk. We value balance in the cup, rather than relying on bitterness alone.
