Food Labeling
Food Labeling & Allergens
How we disclose ingredients, allergens, best-before dates, storage, and origin. Please review before ordering.
When none apply, we state that explicitly.
We do not share production lines with foods containing these allergens.
After opening, reseal tightly, refrigerate, and use soon.
01
Labeling Policy
As a food business, ICHIZEN follows the Food Labeling Act and the Food Sanitation Act. In addition to the on-package label, we publish the following on each product page so you can check it before ordering.
- Product name and ingredients
- Allergens (mandatory and recommended disclosure items)
- Net weight
- Where the best-before date appears, and its typical duration
- Storage instructions
- Name and address of the manufacturer or processor
- Origin of raw ingredients
If the on-package label and the product page ever disagree, the on-package label governs and we correct the product page promptly.
02
Allergen Information
Every product page states whether the product contains any of the 8 allergens requiring mandatory disclosure in Japan.
Shrimp, crab, walnut, wheat, buckwheat, egg, milk, peanut.
We also disclose any of the 20 items recommended for disclosure when they apply.
Almond, abalone, squid, salmon roe, orange, cashew, kiwifruit, beef, sesame, salmon, mackerel, soybean, chicken, banana, pork, macadamia, peach, yam, apple, gelatin.
ICHIZEN matcha is not made on a production line shared with foods containing the items above. If that ever changes, we will add a note to both the product page and the package.
03
Best-Before & Storage
The best-before date is printed on the package. The product page states how much shelf life typically remains at the time of dispatch.
- Before opening, store away from heat, humidity, and direct sunlight.
- After opening, reseal tightly and refrigerate. Aroma and colour change quickly, so use it soon.
- Matcha absorbs surrounding aromas easily, so keep it away from strongly scented foods.
The best-before date indicates the period during which the product tastes at its best when unopened and stored as instructed. Quality after opening depends on how it is stored.
04
Our Position on Health Claims
ICHIZEN products are food. They are not pharmaceuticals or quasi-drugs, and they are not approved or notified as Foods for Specified Health Uses, Foods with Function Claims, or Foods with Nutrient Function Claims.
Accordingly, on this site and in our own communications we commit to the following.
- We do not claim any effect on diagnosing, treating, or preventing illness.
- We do not imply any effect on the structure or function of the body.
- We do not guarantee any health-maintenance or health-improvement effect.
- We do not use customer voices or reviews to imply such effects.
Where our journal introduces general knowledge about tea, we state clearly that it does not describe the effects of our products.
05
Origin of Ingredients
We state the origin of our tea leaves based on actual sourcing records. If the origin changes or a blend of multiple origins is used, we update the product page.
Regional names such as "Uji" or "Kyoto" are used only when the tea leaves genuinely come from that region. Where the place of processing differs from the place of cultivation, we state both separately.
06
Substantiating "First" and "No.1" Claims
Claims such as "first in Japan", "world first", "No.1", or "highest grade" are used only when supported by objective research. When used, we state the following on the same page.
- Scope of the survey, such as the product category
- Geographic scope
- Survey period or reference date
- Survey method
- Source of the survey
Where we cannot show that basis, we do not make the claim. When we compare prices, we state what is being compared and as of when.
