Industrial Zen Matcha

ICHIZEN

Uji Matcha · Kyoto · Japan

A bowl of matcha to sharpen your senses.

Modern life floods us with information and constant decisions. What we need is neither comfort alone nor stimulation for its own sake, but time to feel alert, composed, and able to attend to one thing.

In ICHIZEN’s language, “energy” is the sense of waking associated with caffeine. “Stillness” is the calm margin created by tea—which also contains L-theanine—and by the act of preparing a bowl. Where the two meet, we call it focus.

Matcha / Coffee

Beyond stimulation: focus with composure.

Coffee and matcha both contain caffeine. Matcha also contains naturally occurring L-theanine. ICHIZEN sees that combination as a bowl that channels energy into calm focus.

Coffee

A clear, direct lift

The waking sensation associated with caffeine, often chosen when you want a direct change of pace.

Matcha

Alertness with composure

Tea containing both caffeine and L-theanine, prepared as a ritual for feeling alert while staying composed.

Energy
The feeling of waking up
Stillness
Space without rush
Focus
Attention on one thing

Caffeine and L-theanine levels—and how they feel—vary with serving size, preparation, and the individual.

01 / Brand Story

Bringing the real thing back to a shrinking market.

What I inherited from my father was a Kyoto tea wholesaler specializing in sencha and gyokuro. As that market continued to shrink, we found a new path in matcha.

While the global matcha market grows, authentic Uji matcha is being buried among cheaper alternatives. The difference in quality is difficult to see.

That is why it must be delivered by someone who can see the difference: appearance, aroma, liquor color, taste, and finish. We judge every leaf with competition-grade expertise and refine only the bowl that earns our confidence.

Not simply to preserve tradition, but to serve the focus of people living now. This challenge begins in Uji, Kyoto.

“This is the bowl we deliver as ICHIZEN.”

02 / Family Craft

Japan has moved to protect the real thing.

On July 10, 2026, Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries registered “Nihoncha” under the Geographical Indication (GI) protection system, protecting names whose quality and reputation are rooted in their place of origin.

A protected name alone cannot deliver taste or quality. We rely on the tea expertise inherited from my father and our relationships with Uji producers to deliver the real thing.

03 / Blend Focus

Refining one bowl with an expert eye.

Appearance, aroma, liquor color, taste, and finish. We select the leaves with an expert tea judge’s eye and adjust the blend again and again.

The energy of waking, refined into composed stillness. Directing both toward one thing is ICHIZEN’s idea of focus—and of INDUSTRIAL ZEN.
